Sea-Tac Airport Gate Loading Bridge and Fixed Walkway Replacement, Port of Seattle, Seatac
Structural engineering and design of foundation supports for fixed and moveable passenger loading bridges at Gates S3, S16, S7, S9, B4, S15, C3, B6, B8 and B14. Site observation was performed to check existing condition and to understand the installation and operation of the new bridge. Design analysis of footings includes the effect of wind and seismic loads. Existing transit tunnel was also evaluated to verify adequacy to support new bridge column adjacent to the tunnel walls. Existing footings and drilled shaft were evaluated to determine their adequacy in supporting the new bridge loads. Existing anchor bolts were verified for compliance in accordance with new ACI design codes. Footing modifications were developed to preserve prime ramp space and allow for tight construction limits. Engineering was performed during construction to modify the design for differences observed in field upon excavation.
